Good Club
I have been a member of Harbor Island Yacht Clubs for the last two years and I have been pleased with their instructors and the selection of boats. Pricing is fair and although the majority of their boats are not brand new, they are well maintained. The staff is great about fixing any problems that come up or swapping out to another boat in the fleet. You can't find a better place to learn to sail or spend the day crusing around San Diego Bay.

Great club, marginal boat
I've been a member for a while now and the fleet has changed a bit. There are 2 really nice 30s that I enjoy sailing, but of the 3 Catalina 320s, there is only one I'll sail anymore. The larger boats are all very nice, but require extra certification to sail. The 320 I sailed most recently had several issues such as the shifter getting stuck in reverse, a broken self-healing winch, and very old sails. If I owned a boat in charter, I wouldn't spring for new sails either, but the other issues need to be addressed.

Good day trip
One of the few places on SF bay that don't require you to take a 3-hour "check-out" sail. The others in the area are pretty much members only affairs.
May have changed since then but if you have an ASA/US sailing cert, you should be in good shape.

Wonderful trip
We took a Moorings 403 and had a good experience. Moorings is the only major bareboat operator in La Paz, and like my other experiences with them, the service was exemplary. The briefing was helpful and organized.
By far the highlight was the area. The Sea of Cortez, while not for the novice sailor, was amazing. We pretty much had every anchorage to ourselves, and the desert landscape was very different from anything I had experienced. Not much to do on shore, but more relaxing than the Caribbean. Another neat thing was the fishing - we caught fish (tuna & dorado) to eat every night.
Worth the money, great time!
