ABC Unsavoy & Unethical
This review of ABC Yacht Charters began with a charter reservation made in March 2007 with Charters NorthWest, which ABC then bought in May 2007. As a result the following was the terrible experience we had with the boat at Charters NW but then ABC Yacht Charters refused to honor the agreement the company that they owned made with me.
Our charter was a pathetic experience that began when we signed up for the charter with Charters NW in March 2007 and in May 2007 (without ever once informing us) they were bought out by ABC Yacht Charters in Anacortes, an equally pathetic outfit). Charters NW has only three or four people operating it, so everything is s-l-o-w, from checkout to assitance on the phone. We arrived Friday night in order to get an early start to checkout Saturday. We stood around for hours waiting, (along with other groups). Every boat seemed to have mechanical difficulties and every check out slow. While we were on site the night before, we did not leave the dock until 4pm!! So we moored overnight nearby and departed the harbor the following day. About 1 hour into the departure, the engine blew a casket, and after an afternoon of getting back to the dock we started from, they failed to provide an acceptable replacement (even though they now had a new merger charter company, the two outfits did not want to run up a tab at the others place). Finally, they told me I would ge all my money back. I asked for the check that day but they said it takes two days to process through their newly merged Charter company. So, we spent two days at a nearby lodge and enjoyed the island. On the appointed day I went to Charters NW to get my check.... The whole staff "had the day off" and the person subbing on the desk said there would be no check, "it would come from the other charter company that bought them". I immediately called American Express and disputed the payment. That worked because the charges were within 30 days. However, the initial deposit (around $450) had taken place four months previous so AmEX could not halt that payment. I then began grinding on the ABC Yacht Charters to get my intitial deposit back as I had been promised. But they fought AmEx every step of the way, telling AmEX they were entitled to the money, refusing to pay up. After months of grinding with AmEx and ABC Charters I finally gave up. I can only devote so many man-days to dealing with dishonest business people who have no ethics. My advise... STAY the hell away from Charters Northwest and ABC Yacht Charters.

Go back again and again
The people at San Juan Sailing are terrific. I started with them as a student in their sailing school, and have gone back for multiple classes and charters.
Their people are professional, very friendly and are all sailors themselves. The boats are very well maintained and the pricing is reasonable.
The San Juans Islands are beautiful and make for easy sailing, as most destinations are line-of-site. For adventurous types, head to the Gulf Islands for more challenging sailing and true wilderness.
Will go back again next year!

Couldn't be better!
We (a group of 5 guys) chartered from Island Cruising for a week of sailing in the Gulf Islands near Victoria BC.
The service provided was great, boat and equipment was first class and the price was right.
Our boat was ready when promised, in immaculate condition and basic provisions supplied as promised. We bought our own food for this adventure, but they will shop for you (your list) or provide full provisions (their list).
A nice touch was a basket with wine, cheese and crackers awaiting us upon arrival.
Check-out of the boat was thorough and efficient and we were on our way!
I haven't chartered much, but I don't see how it could be much better or easier.
We'll be back!
