Decent charter
Chartered with them as I was looking for a value-priced cat fairly late (booked < 1 month from sailing). The boat was older than some of the BVI boats - it looked like it was on a second tour. The owners were friendly and helpful, and generally the boat was well-maintained if a bit aged.
They had a weird policy with insurance, requing me to write a $2k security check and be liable for a large deductible. I would rather pay for insurance like I have with other companies, but thankfully had no problems.

Recommended charter
I have used Barecat Charters several times now. They have a wide variety of boats from fairly new (1-2 years) to older (7-10 years).
The outfit is small, and they pay attention to both boats and customers.
The location is easy to reach from the ferry dock, provisioning is easy at a nearby store and the pricing is good compared to the bigger players.
A good bet that you go back again too. That being said, if money is no object would go with a place with a newer fleet.

BareCat is a good value
We chartered for the third time from BareCat and will charter with them again. The Leopard 38 was a retired Moorings boat SaJay, in excellent shape and with no problems.
I encountered problems on a previous charter, not unexpected as stuff breaks, and after a conversation from While Bay with Mike we went on to have a beer with Ivan and when we returned to the boat it had ben fixed.
Mike and Sydney Fallis own and operate BareCats. They bust their buns to get it right and you are always dealing directly with them. The stateside manager is equaly as good, every question answered promptly and accurately.
This was a good value on top of the good boat good people and service so we're sticking with these guys and let the corporate folks get what they can.

BareCat Insurance
In my recent review I forgot to put in my 2 cents regarding the security deposit with BareCat. I was apprehensive the first time, $2K isn't chump change. For me the $40 a day should be built into the rates of the other charter boats. As I understand it it isn't an insurance premium but a "buy down".
No matter. On my charters the refunded deposit was in my mailbox within a few days of returning home. 10 days at $40 a day ($400) that I saved by letting them hold a deposit sure seemed worth it.
Their fueling work the same, like the rental cars, the boat goes out full and you return it full. There are no daily fuel charges either.
Sure seems fair to me.

Awesome Staff - Highly Recommended
Chartered a Lagoon 38 (Bird's Nest) for a week and had a fantastic time.
The boat was very well maintained and the staff was really helpful and easy to work with at every step of the way. Tom gave us the great briefing before we pushed off and told us about some great little anchorages not in the cruising guide. He was available by telephone to advise us on weather conditions etc., what anchorages would be the most comfortable given that days conditions and how early or late we would need to be someplace if we wanted to pick up a mooring ball.
Half way through the week one of our crew managed to disconnect the fuel line to the dingy outboard motor and I got sea water in the fuel before I realized what was wrong. All it took was a phone call to Tom and he came to on our boat (off Little Jost Van Dyke) and fixed the problem. A family we met who had chartered from one on the large charter companies was amazed by that. When something went wrong with their boat there company would told them they had to bring it back to the base in Road Town.
We couldn’t be happier with our experience chartering from Barecat. We will definitely charter from them again and have no hesitation recommending them to others.
